Red Cross day is celebrated every year on the 8th of May. It symbolises the birth of henry dunant (born 8th may 1828), the founder of interntional committee of Red Cross (ICRC) and the recipient of the first novel peace prize. World Red Cross Day is an annual event celebration, celebrating the principles of “International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement”. It is celebrated every year to pay tribute to the volunteers that participated in the event as well as welcome their precious contribution for helping people in need.
Taking into consideration the theme ‘everywhere for everyone’ branches in the Eastern Cape celebrated Red Cross day with our OVC, youth, clients and staff playing indigenous games….
“We often get so occupied with the work that we have to do that we dont take a step back to appreciate the little things, laugh and love with those that mean alot to us” said cindi a youth volunteer
“Being an OVC, Red Cross makes us feel included…I thought I wouldn’t manage to mix with the other kids, but the day has simply been amazing…it doesn’t matter who you are…Red Cross is for everyone” says Thuli
“Alot of kids our age are either busy with their gadgets or watching TV, today we experienced the fun of playing outdoors with friends…I had soo much fun and really feel blessed”…. says zanele an OVC
Playing games with my care giver was fun….it makes her approachable…one never feels that they are a client as they don’t scold or look down on us..they listen to what we have to say…says akhona an mdr-tb client
Like the hola hoop, Red Cross love is continous….
“Whilst playing netball, we had other girl teams coming to challenge us…and as the Red Cross kids netball club, we disseminated about Red Cross…and of course won the challenge”🙄 says Pam
Happy Red Cross Day to All….😘
